Any one intending to conduct a special event such as a race, speed trial, competition or other organised water activity in any area where the Tasman District Council Navigation Safety Bylaw 2024 applies and where it is desirable to have exclusive use of the area to run the event, must apply to the Harbourmaster.
Any area of waterway may be reserved for a specified maritime safety purpose, for a specified period by the Harbourmaster issuing a Temporary Reservation. Other approvals can be made for exemptions to the Navigation Safety Bylaw 2024.
Applications must be submitted a minimum of four weeks (20 working days) before the event.
If you are unsure about the navigation safety rules surrounding your event or activity, please contact the Harbourmaster.
The Harbourmaster has (or may soon) grant authorisations for the following known events. Other events may also occur during this time but the Harbourmaster has not yet received further applications. Event information is updated most between November and March each year.
The table below lists those activities affecting public use of waters of the district that have either been granted a special dispensation of some sort this year, or for which an application is anticipated. Click on the authorisation link to view details of the event and any special authority that has been granted. The table will be blank if no events are currently scheduled.

Applications must be submitted a minimum of four weeks (20 working days) before the event/activity, or the application may be declined.
There is no charge for a reservation or speed-limit uplifting, however the applicant may be required to place public notices at their own cost in some cases.
