We undertake a programme of aerial spraying on river fairway to reduce the build-up of woody weeds and other vegetation, such as lupin, gorse and broom, that may inhibit the movement of gravel and reduce flood flow capacity.
We will be starting aerial fairway spraying starting in April 2026, in the middle to lower part of the Motueka River.
The area of focus involves sites between Pangatotara and Ngātīmoti, as well as between Pokororo and McLeans Reserve.
During the same period, we will also carry out spraying along a section of the Wairoa River, between Clover Road East and River Terrace Rd. Maps of both areas are shown below.
We will also be investigating all other Tasman District Council maintained rivers in the upcoming weeks to identify any weed control requirements in those areas, and will provide an updated notification if spraying activities will occur.
